WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CHRISTIAN?

‘What is this all about?’ can be a loaded question that combines a few questions - what is church? Why do we do church? However, these questions are encompassed by just one – what does it mean to be a Christian? 

The word Christian originated centuries ago after Jesus died and became the term given to His followers. The Greek word literally translates as ‘Christlike’. It was given to the early followers of Jesus, and the name has stuck to this day. A good way to describe it is by saying what it is not. It is not about keeping rules and regulations, performing rituals, or even going to church, none of which are bad. It is first and foremost about having a relationship with our Creator, God. 

Jesus said that knowing Him is the doorway to that relationship and the only way to get to know God is through Him. Millions of people today have discovered this door, by accepting Jesus into their lives as their Lord and Saviour and embarking on a relationship with God for this life and for the life hereafter. In this way we declare ourselves ‘Christians’.


ACCEPT JESUS INTO YOUR LIFE

ACTS 16:31 "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved"

JOHN 10:10 "I have come to give you life to the full"

EPHESIANS 2:8&9 "By grace you’re saved through faith”

2 CORINTHIANS 5:21 “Jesus became sin for our sake”

1 PETER 2:24 “By His wounds we are healed”

“Dear God

I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life.

Please forgive me. I now turn from everything that I know is wrong. Thank you that Jesus died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free. Jesus I now ask You into my life as my Saviour. I want to follow You from this day forward. I put my trust in You and I surrender my life to You. Please come into my life and fill me with Your Holy Spirit.
